Books-on-demand - perfect for publishers, perfect for influencers.

Books over the entire product life cycle of a title.

The "book-on-demand" production process is ideally suited to publishers of all orientations in terms of quality, technical possibilities and paper selection. We produce softcover and hardcover books and deliver them directly to book wholesalers (Zeitfracht/Umbreite/Libri) or directly to the respective publisher's distribution centre on behalf of the publisher. On request, end customer orders are delivered directly to the end customer with the corresponding dispatch documents in the publisher's look and feel.

The possibilities of book-on-demand can be best utilised if the systems of the publishers and their respective service providers (delivery) are digitally connected to our system.

Significantly save publishing resources with book-on-demand.

Book-on-demand noticeably conserves the publisher's resources and also offers the opportunity to optimally utilise the long tail of a title. Backlist titles become available again. At the same time, the visibility of publishers in the market is significantly increased.

If Books-on-Demand is fully integrated into the publishing processes, it also protects the environment by reducing paper consumption, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, storage costs and waste. This makes Books-on-Demand the production technology of choice on the road to a successful publishing future.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Basic information for "book-on-demand" newcomers.

For us as a professional digital print shop, the term "book on demand" stands for cooperation with publishers of all sizes and orientations. And we are convinced that a successful book project is not possible without a committed publisher.

Nevertheless, the topic of book on demand is of interest to an ever-growing group of authors, influencers, artists and photographers. Accordingly, the questions being asked on the internet are of a more fundamental nature. We want to answer these questions here as helpfully as possible.

How does book-on-demand work and what exactly does it mean?

"Printing books on demand, i.e. only producing books when there is a specific demand, is the publishing industry's contemporary response to increasingly diverse customer requirements. In practice, a middle way between the 1:1 order and a cost-saving, slightly higher print run often proves to be the most economical way.

As the ESSER Group, we can offer our publishing customers the most interesting and economical service packages, especially in the 3-4-digit circulation range.

Who do I contact if I want to publish a book?

Despite all the "self-publishing" options offered online that seem very simple at first glance, we would like to recommend that you always contact a reputable publisher with your book project. Hardly any successful book can do without the expertise of a publisher.

After all, in addition to the technical hurdles, your book should also be a success. And this simply requires a book to be edited, professionally designed and distributed in line with market requirements. It simply doesn't work without professionals.

How much does book-on-demand cost - is there a rule of thumb for calculating this?

Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered in one sentence. This is because book-on-demand has long offered the same technical diversity as traditional offset printing.

From the decision between perfect binding or high-quality thread stitching, to the choice between inexpensive or high-quality paper, to the diverse design possibilities of book binding. A serious and reliable calculation of the actual costs of "book on demand" is only possible for experienced experts.

How does this work in practice, do I simply send a Word file or a PDF?

Whether Word file or PDF: The more carefully your files are prepared, the better. As we print exclusively for publishers in the Book on Demand sector, we always receive a professional, print-ready file. However, it is very likely that the publishers will still have to make a considerable effort up to this point.

The technical and creative precision work that goes into a book project is barely perceptible to the layman. Digital printing has made book printing easier. But it still doesn't "work by itself".
